Hagerty just made an article a week or so ago that the new Polestar series Volvo’s will be now limited to a speed limit of 112 mph. That may seem like a lot to the average person, but with a car that you are paying almost $160,000 US dollars for, and has over 400HP, you probably want to be able to take it to the track or race it somehow.
With this new development, that means that my car, and basically any other 1800 series car, can beat a brand new sports car that is over four times the horsepower and if you consider inflation, about five times the cost. Back in the day, cars were more of an investment, at about 1/3 of your home value. Now, the median value is somewhere around $210,000, and you can buy a brand new Chevrolet Spark for $15,000. So, if you are looking for speed, you are better off to buy a 54 year old Volvo for about $10,000, add a turbo and improve it, rather than buy a brand new Volvo sports car for $150,000.
